painted piano INSTALLAION for "oc can you play?"
In 2011, Kelly Dylla of the Pacific Symphony asked Joni to paint a piano for public installation. The project was written up in the LA Times and Orange County Register. In a cluttered South Coast Metro warehouse, Joni painted one of fifteen pianos destined for music-making throughout the county. The pianos, which were donated by the likes of Yamaha, Kawai and generous individuals, were scattered throughout Orange County to comfortably rest in public places for a period of two months. They were adjusted, tuned and made ready for free by the Piano Technicians Guild. The public was invited to play these decorated pianos. Joni's piano was then selected for a two-year installation and display in the historic Santora Building of the Artists' Village in Santa Ana, California. It was removed and sold at auction when the building sold in 2013.
